updates about me right now

Mon, 18th August

hi friends. I realised that a lot has happened since I made my last blog. I thought a bit to myself and realised that blogging every single day would get draining. I think that doing this every month would be a cool outlet for my overall thoughts and experiences without any temporary emotions getting in the way. So yeah, I’m doing this once per month. Either way, thank you for still being my friend and for reading all of my nonsense, lol. I hope you have fun (somehow?).

Day with Grandparents

Last week on Thursday I spent close to a day with my grandparents as my birthday is coming up. I went out with someone I call Mamou (she’s my grandmother) and we had lunch together. The walk to their house was a nice 30 minute walk, but it’s cool. It’s not like Australia is struggling with the cold or anything- (that is sarcasm because this winter is really really bad). Anyways, I got to their house and I got to sit down with my grandfather. It’s nice to be able to spend time with both of my grandparents as they are getting older and things are beginning to get harder for them. Soon enough, I’ll be over there taking care of them. Speaking of, I’m going to fix the deck they have in the backyard soon. It’s all cracked and broken apart which has a risk of someone falling through it. The decking is close to 100 years old (and it’s made with wood that you shouldn’t use for decking so it shouldn’t have lasted this long). Overall it’s good that I’m going to go over to help fix it. And by “fix” I mean basically just I’m going over and helping to replace the wood there with newer and more durable wood.

Anyways I was sitting down with my grandfather and we watched some TV before I got captivated with the stray cat they have outside. His name is Merlin, he’s one of the most gorgeous cats I’ve seen. He has a lion’s mane and he just looks sick. He’s a brown-ish/grey-ish colour (I cant remember in all honesty). And once Merlin ran back into the jungle of the backyard, I noticed how many birds were outside. And that’s because my grandparents feed the noisy miner birds and the rainbow lorikeets that come by their house every day or so. Now little fact about me, I LOVE NATURE. Nature is probably my favourite thing because of how beautiful everything is. Especially when nature loves you (that sounds weird but lemme tell you more about it). I got some food and the birds are meant to be fed differently.

When you want to feed a noisy miner bird, you throw small break pieces up in the air for them and they’ll catch it before it hits the floor.

When you want to feed a cockatoo, throw them medium-sized pieces (they always hold the bread in their left claws instead of their right ones, no clue why). And be careful when feeding them because they sometimes take food out of each-other’s mouths, so you need to be very personal about which ones you feed (otherwise they’ll steal each-other’s food and one fatass will get all the food).

When you want to feed a rainbow lorikeet, you hold the bread and hold your arms out. (quick warning, I don’t know whether this is for all rainbow lorikeets or just the ones outside my grandparents backyard), but when you hold your arms out the rainbow lorikeets will fly to you, landing on your body somewhere to get the bread. I’ve even seen some of the cheeky rainbow lorikeets hop inside the house and look for some bread (they leave after realising they wont get any if they just walk around). And with rainbow lorikeets, I didn’t have any idea at the time but I learned something. Rainbow lorikeets are one of the most social and friendly birds. They stay in groups of 2-3 as they form very close bonds with their mate. In the evening they’ll usually get into a large swarm of around 100 other lorikeets before sleeping.

The Rainbow Lorikeets Gang

Now, there was a specific little group of rainbow lorikeets I got associated with during this day with my grandparents. There were 3 lorikeets who hung out together who loved me with all their hearts (more like 2 birds who were mated together with a 3rd wheel lorikeet but whatever). There was a shy lorikeet (I’m calling Willow), never climbing onto my body and hopping away as quick as she could whenever I started to move. There was a cheeky lorikeet (the 3rd wheel lorikeet that I’m calling Zippy) who constantly stole food from birds and started fights (just to get food). Then there was the rainbow lorikeet who loved me the most (I’m calling Aurion). He was mated with Willow, and he was like Optimus Prime. I’m not even joking, this bird had aura. Anytime the Zippy tried stealing food from other birds, Aurion would fly out of my hands and wouldn’t even need to screech, Zippy would immediately just back down. It was incredible to watch.

Even crazier, there was a group of around 8 cockatoos that were trying to have some bread (which is fair they prolly hungry). But the cockatoos went a bit too far, they started trying to take food from the gang. Now, Aurion was busy eating bread from my hands so he wasn’t too focused on what was happening on the ground. Zippy tried to take the food back but all the cockatoos started creeping closer to the lorikeets and I was getting ready to intervene. That’s when I heard a screech from Willow and, clean as a bitch, Aurion flew down from my hands and took out the closest 3 cockatoos. After witnessing a bird that weighs roughly the same as half a cup of sugar (around 120 grams) take not 1, not 2, but 3 of the species double the size and 8 times heavier, all the cockatoos took off. And my man Aurion did the most disrespectful thing to the cockatoo he took out first (the first one he sniped got knocked onto his side). Aurion decided to do this cockatoo dirty for picking on the gang, he stood over the cockatoo – ballsy as hell but icl it went hard as hell. That cockatoo was scared of my gang Aurion. That’s what happens when you mess with our gang, don’t be messing with us gang shiii.

Okay, but anyways after that Zippy tried to eat from my hands (which was nice except for whenever he started trying to bite my fingers), but he soon got scared off by Aurion who was basically like “don’t touch my food, bro. this good stuff is for the king”. And I was fully with Aurion. Now at times I made Aurion go on my head, and I even got to pat him on the head and on the feathers. Aurion sat on my shoulders, even after I had no more bread left he remained with me until Willow called for him and he flew off into the tree nearby. It was a rainy and cold day so while I was out in clothing not designed for wet weather (I was freezing to death lmao), the birds that were there stayed with me. Probably because I had bread… but they still stayed with me so that’s cool ig. There was even a time that Zippy was on my shoulder and Aurion was on my hand/arm. And a cockatoo could see the two birds were feasting, so he tried to fly onto one of my shoulders but I got spooked (seeing a bird coming straight for me wasn’t pleasant so I ducked). After ducking he took a U-turn and flew back to the tree while Zippy flew off my shoulder and Aurion continued eating like a boss.

Lunch

There was one break in-between all the Lorikeet stuff – which is when I went to go get lunch with Mamou. It was a birthday lunch that we went out for and we had fun, talking about life and stuff. I got asked some more personal questions and I answered pretty well. We went to a Sushi place called Moon Fresh Sushi. They offered really cheap sushi dishes that honestly filled me up (never thought in 1000 years that sushi could fill someone’s belly but these guys were super generous with the size of sushi). I got a Black Spider sushi roll, which is a chef’s special. I’m not being promoted by these guys, I just really like them a lot lmao. After eating there, we headed back to my grandparents place again and I took some time to spend with my grandfather. It was interrupted by my fascination in the rainbow lorikeets and seeing Aurion and the gang happy. After the distraction I came back inside basically drenched (as I’d stayed with the lorikeets during the rain). I was freezing and shivering and I’m thankful of my grandparents because Mamou quickly ran and got a towel (God bless her).

I came back inside and sat back down infront of the heater. Grandad and I watched some car stuff on TV while I was warming up. He showed me the new Corvette with the engine at the back of the car instead of the front, and he showed me different models of split-window corvettes that were brought back to life (interesting show, maybe should watch it?). After we finished with that, I begun walking home (in the rain). And yes, it was pretty stupid of me to do but I didn’t want Mamou to spend anymore of her time driving me back home. I thought that the trip home would be easy… Boy was I wrong… The side-path was basically completely flooded the entire walk home, I’d get to walk normally every few minutes but after around 40 seconds of walking you’d reach more flooded  side-path and my feet sunk into one of the deep puddles in the concrete, making my socks and feet wet and damp. When I got home, my parents basically scolded me for walking back in the cold and the rain and told me to go have a warm shower – which I ignored and rested in bed. The day after this, I got sick (big surprise). That weekend, my brother got admitted to the hospital – something pretty serious that I’m not going to go too deep into because of privacy reasons. It was bad enough he had to get surgery for it and there was a risk of death if he didn’t decide to have the surgery. Thankfully, it all worked out and we got him back at home today. Not to mention, my father was in hospital the week prior due to other problems (again, not going too deep for privacy reasons).

Ending

In total, it’s been a hellish 2 weeks and I’ve been pushing and doing my best to uhhh idk? Ig I’ve been doing my best to be the best I could possibly be, helping people out and being useful, not being argumentative or lazy. The photos above are just 4 photos Mamou took when I was feeding the Rainbow Lorikeets. (And before you ask, yes. That rainbow lorikeet standing on my hand/wrist is infact Aurion). If you want to say hi or just talk to me I’d be happy to talk. I really enjoy any company I can get. I’ll try to feed the birds outside my house more often to see if any of them grows a bond with me like those rainbow lorikeets did. Anyways I’m done writing. PEACEEEE!!
